Established in 1936, the Desert National Wildlife Refuge encompasses nearly 1.6 million acres of the diverse Mojave Desert in southern Nevada. It is the largest National Wildlife Refuge in the lower 48 states. Visitors can take advantage of numerous recreational opportunities including camping, hiking, backpacking, bird watching, and horseback riding.
Recently, a new Visitor Center opened at Corn Creek, the Refuge’s headquarters. The 11,000 square foot building has interpretive exhibits, a gift shop/bookstore, classrooms, and administrative offices. It is open weekends and some weekdays, depending on the season; please visit the website for current hours.
